The society welcomed Cambridgeshire to Bawburgh
Golf Club on Wednesday 13th June. As usual we will start with
the weather! All players tee'd off in sunshine with a few chasing
clouds, after a lunch of soup and sandwiches.
All players said they enjoyed a well manicured but difficult course
with some "funny" pin positions, prior to teeing off
the President decided the match should be from the white tees!!!
As your secretary was the starter, he heard a lot of comments
like, "we are not as young as we were!!" "from
yellow to white, "that's another 367yards!!!".
Still
it was the same for all and Norfolk came out the eventual winners
four and a half to three and a half.
All enjoyed a lovely roast beef meal, followed by a choice of
sweet. The societies were welcomed before the golf and at dinner
by the captain of Bawburgh, Paul Took, who gave an interesting
account of the history of the course and his thanks to the Barnard
family for providing the course.
This was followed by a response from the society President, Mike
Bell, who also welcomed the members from Cambridgeshire and thanked
the Match managers for their work in selecting the teams, after
what seemed like a lifetime he called for a response by the Cambridgeshire
captain, Hugh Carlisle, he thanked the club and greens staff for
the condition of the course and the staff for looking after one
and all so well during the day. He announced the result as mentioned
above.
The
secretary wished all a safe journey home and said he looked forward
to seeing the selected players for the three counties match on
the 28th June at Middleton Hall.
